This is a really cool story and it all starts that last week, a Tesla Model S drove through a flooded tunnel in Kazakhstan. It is not really clear if the car was actually floating above the water, but that didn’t stop the CEO Elon Musk from Tweeting a little secret.
We *def* don’t recommended this, but Model S floats well enough to turn it into a boat for short periods of time. Thrust via wheel rotation.

He did’t actually indicate the specifics about what makes the car float enough. But still, it is an electric vehicle, the Model S doesn’t need air like an internal combustion engine so in theory, the system and the motors should be able to operate underwater (or above water) as long as they’re sealed properly against all the water pressure.
Musk failed to indicate the specifics about what makes the Model S buoyant enough to float. Yet as an electric vehicle, the Model S does not rely on air like an internal combustion engine so, in theory, the car’s systems should be able to operate underwater (or on water) as long as they’re properly sealed against the water pressure.
Still, after all NEVER try this with your Model S, though. Because, Tesla’s warranty does not cover water damage.
