The chair Faaborg has a special role in the history of Scandinavian modernism. Designed by Kaare Klint for the Faaborg museum , opened in 1915 , it is one of the first pieces of Danish furniture that propagate a new style, focused on a simple form and precise function , and through the elimination of unnecessary decorations.
Klint was only 26 when he designed Faaborg, almost two decades before his legendary chair – Safari. Today many recognize as the godfather of Danish modernism, having helped establish the Department of Design at the Royal Academy of Fine Arts in Copenhagen in 1920. As a professor at the academy, he “grew” a lot of designers, including Børge Mogensen and Jens Risom.
