Is there a human on this planet who would not want to keep a dog? It seems they have a much larger role in our lives than we thought. Scientists around the world reveal the 9 reasons why it is better to be a dog owner.
1. Dog owners often laugh
The authors of one study examined several owners of dogs and a few people who do not have pets to discover how many times a day they laugh. The results showed that dog owners do it more often, and therefore are happier.
2. Dog owners have faithful friends
Dogs evolved from wolves, and these animals are known to live in packs and develop a strong relationship with other members. This is what makes today’s domestic dog faithful. Stephen Zavistovski, from the American Society for the Prevention of cruelty against animals, said that dogs see their owner as a member of their pack and they connect with him the same way as it would have done with their “brothers and sisters” of the pack.
3. Owners of dogs are social people
This conclusion came from researchers from Liverpool and Bristol and it is quite logical, since the owners of dogs often go for walks, meet other people and talk to them, whether they are dog owners or not.
4. Dogs protect health
A study published last year showed that children born in homes that have a dog as a pet have a lower risk of developing asthma or allergy. Thanks to the dogs, who are allowed entry into and exit the home, children develop a modified community of microbes that protect against allergens.
5. People who have dogs are more active
Scientists from Michigan found that 60% of dog owners often perform their pets for a walk and thus meet the criteria for moderate physical exercise. Bearing that in mind, older people who walk their dogs are in better physical shape than their peers who are walking alone, according to a study conducted by the magazine “Journal of psychological and mental health care.”
6. Dogs save lives
Some dogs have universal donor blood type, just like some people. Dogs can also help people who suffer from epilepsy because they have the ability to alert the patient before the coming of the epileptic attack. Trained dogs can predict the attack even 15 minutes before its occurrence. Then begin to bark and thereby warn the patient to sit down and not get hurt in the fall.
7. Dogs give a deeper sense of life
They are great company for everyone, especially for the elderly. In a study published in the journal “Journal of Social Psychology,” we have concluded that older people who have a dog are more satisfied with their social, physical and emotional state of those who do not.
8. Dogs boost confidence
A study shows that people who bought a dog, 10 months later had significantly higher self-esteem, improved physical activity and less fearful of crime.
9. Dogs really make us happy
Even the simple eyes of your pet creates oxytocin in your body, a hormone that is associated with good mood. In a recent study measured the activity levels of oxytocin between two groups of dog owners. In one group were told not to look directly into the eyes of their pets, and the other group were told the opposite. In the first group were measured lower levels of oxytocin compared with the second group to which she was allowed contact with eyes. In another study, however, has found that dog owners are on average less depressed, less feel lonely, more confident, happier and feel less stress.
